Switlik Parachute Company of Trenton, New Jersey, has issued a Safety Alert and Recall due to potential problems with the inflation valve(s) in some of their marine life rafts. Switlik notes that "while the instances and percentages of improper inflation system operation are relatively small, this issue directly affects whether or not a life raft will properly inflate in case of an emergency. We feel that this valve replacement should occur at your earliest practical opportunity."

This is serious matter and we at ETS urge you to not ignore this Safety Alert. Switlik will replace, at no charge to the owner, the existing S-2630 inflation valve/s on the life raft, regardless of the age of the life raft. You are still responsible for complying with any normal recommended service procedures and transportation of the Life Raft to and from the service facility. So, there may be some cost to you, especially if you haven't been following recommended service intervals. Irrespective, you should do this as soon as practical.
Switlik report that they have contacted all the owners for which they have contact information and have also been working with their dealers to get contact information for those not in their database. Because there is no regulatory requirement for owners to provide this data to the manufacturer, or to maintain its currency, it can make contacting them in such a situation problematic. Just another good reason to ensure you send in that warranty card for all the safety and survival equipment you purchase, any of which could be subject to a similar alert you would best be made aware of in a timely manner.
